About Us Grindall's of Wem are here to help when you need it most, overseen by the only totally independent fourth generation family funeral directors in Shropshire, we provide support and guidance through every step of the arrangements. Our office is run by Miss Jen Jones, who has been working locally in and around Wem since 1998 and has been based at Grindall's of Wem since March 2014. The end of 2018 saw a complete refurbishment, ensuring more comfortable surroundings to discuss all the funeral options available to you: whether you need to arrange a burial or cremation, a religious or non-religious service, or would prefer a dedicated gentlemen or lady funeral director. Our History In 1931, Joseph Henry Grindall purchased the funeral business from his brother-in-law Vivian Wellings. Soon after the Second World War ended, Joseph's sons Jabez and Vivian joined him, and it became the family business J H Grindall & Sons, which was located in the High Street, Wem. Joseph Henry Grindall passed away in 1973 and Jabez and Vivian continued to run the business until 1988 when Mr Alan Painter of Frank Painter & Sons bought the business from them. Vivian continued to run the office for a number of years until he retired and the office has since relocated to Aston Street, where in honour of its history it now bears the name Grindall's Of Wem. Vivian Grindall passed away in 2005 and Jabez Grindall in 2010.
